The Olfactive

  • We may start at the beginning, has scent always been a large part of your life?

I've always been a huge fan of scent. From being a girl smelling food cooking in the kitchen to sniffing flowers outside. My mother always wore perfume (and still does). From the time I was old enough to wear perfume, I did.

  • Are there any scent memories from growing up that you are still drawn to?

My grandmother was Italian. I remember helping her in the kitchen even as a young child. I also remember the smell of her face powder when she hugged me. She passed away when I was in my mid-teens and can still smell that face powder.

  • How did your career or journey into the fragrance world begin?

I used to swap on Makeup Alley. I started to buy oils and carriers and started blending and I would include things in swap packages. Eventually, people started to ask me to buy bottles of the scents I was sending them so I opened an Etsy shop. Within a month or two, I had outgrown Etsy and got my own website.

  • Every artists process is a bit different can you speak on what inspires you and your creative process?

I get many ideas just by trying to fill a void in my own perfume collection. One day, I might think 'I wish I had a tropical floral with caramel', then I'll go to the lab and get to work!

  • What are the themes of the brand and it’s vision?

I don't think I really have themes for my brand. I tend to enjoy putting notes into scents that wouldn't seem to belong. I also never list all the notes of a scent. I like a bit of mystery. I want to always be known for simply beautiful scents. Nothing pretentious here.

  • What is view or advice to anyone seeking to follow their creative side?

Follow your heart. I've had tons of advice on how to go from being an indie to being a niche perfumer. I like to have the creative upper hand and I don't want to have to answer to anyone.

  • Finally, how may we find your brand and is there anything else that you would like to say?
